6 Daily Habits to Implement for a Positive 2018

Can you believe the new year is almost here? It feels like 2017 went by in the blink of an eye, but honestly, I’m not complaining. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m ready to leave this year behind so I can focus on all the growth I want to achieve in 2018.

Today, I’m sharing six daily habits I’m implementing (and you should too!) for a positive new year. Let’s make 2018 the best year yet!

 

1 | Revisit your goals

After the excitement of a fresh slate wears off, too many of us simply forget about our New Year’s resolutions and goals. January soon becomes February, and before we know it we’re stuck back in our old ways.

Those big plans you once had for the year might start to feel unimportant, like nothing more than dreams. But it shouldn’t be this way. And it doesn’t have to be!

Don’t let the year slip by without taking action. Set aside just a little time each day to revisit your goals. Focus on the ‘why’ behind them and evaluate whether or not you’re making any progress.

 

2 | Express gratitude

This is something I really need to work on. Honestly, I think we could all benefit from a daily gratitude practice. We live in a society that’s always wanting more, so taking the time each day to appreciate the little stuff really puts things in perspective.

Make it a habit to write down something you’re grateful for each day. It can be anything, big or small. This simple act will help you keep your mind off negative energy in your life and give you something positive to look back on when you’re feeling down.

 

3 | Read

For me, reading on a daily basis is a great way to de-stress. Sadly, I didn’t read nearly as many books as I would have liked to in 2017, so I want to make it a habit to read every single day in 2018.

Reading daily can sometimes feel like a challenge, but that’s only because we make it one. You don’t have to read twenty chapters a day! Just reading a few pages before you go to sleep at night will get you into the routine. Eventually, you’ll find that the more you read, the more you want to do it.

 

4 | Document

I think living in the moment is important, but at the same time, we only get one life. I’m not sure about you, but I want to have something to look back on when I get old.

This year I want to make it a habit to document a small memory each day. This could be done by journaling, blogging, or just snapping a picture. It doesn’t really matter how – the important thing is that you’re saving memories.

 

5 | Self-reflect

Like I said earlier, I really want to focus on growth in 2018. A great way to do this is by practicing self-reflection daily. Examining your own thoughts and feelings is important if you want to see where you’re doing well and where you’re lacking.

Finding time between the chaos to sit down and reflect can be hard, but it’s an extremely helpful tool. Self-reflection allows you to see both the positive and negative patterns in your life and keeps you focused on the bigger picture.

 

6 | Say yes

As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve gotten into a habit of just saying no whenever I’m faced with the decision to do something. I don’t know if it’s fear or just laziness, but it’s really not a healthy way to live life.

I get that it’s important to not take on too much, but if you say no to everything, you’ll miss out on so much opportunity!

This can be really hard, but the next time someone asks you to go somewhere or do something you’re not super excited about, fight the impulse to automatically refuse. Instead of saying no, try to say yes to something new each day.

Practicing good habits regularly is important to help us grow. And with 2018 rapidly approaching, now is the perfect time to start building those positive new habits. However, if you find yourself falling into old patterns, don’t be too hard on yourself.
